Oktoberfest at the Hillsborough

Its that time of year the big fest in Munich kicked of last week and we at The Hillsborough Hotel were going to do our own little tribute. But most of the beers we wanted in keg wouldn’t be in the country in time so I decided we would get a few bottles in for people to try during October and when there gone there gone.
I brewed my own Oktoberfest beer in May, its a little different as there is some smoked malt in there as well.

The Oktoberfest biers we have are
Hofbrau 6.3%
Lowenbrau 6.1%
Spaten 5.9%
Augustinerbrau 6%

Crown Smokin Oktoberfest 5.7% will be on the bar in cask and available for take out bottle conditioned at £2.50 each.
If you want tasting information about Oktoberfest beers then watch this great video.

I have also decided to put a couple of extra special crown beers on during October
Ring of Fire 10.3% and a cask of the IPA 7% that I brewed with Pete Brown back in June.
I will Tweet when the crown casks come on so follow me on twitter.

New Menu at Hillsborough Hotel

This is our new menu starting today, its all home made within reason not quite to the standards that Wool pack Dave goes to but we couldn’t sell the food he does at the prices he charge. I do agree with a lot of what he is saying though.
I would like to know what people think of our menu. The Hillsborough Hotel web site

New Jazz beer

Yesterday I brewed another beer in the jazz series Ornette Coleman it should come out at around 4.4% abv. I had an idea for the hops, I wanted to use the same combination as the IPA i did with Pete Brown (you can read about it here) i wanted to do a session strength version quite bitter and hoppy but not so strong. so i did it and I’ll do a video tasting later next week.
