Been a while since I posted so here is an update on my activities.
Brooklyn Heights was a real success and I got loads of great feed back¹ so instead of useing the small amount of Apollo and Summit I had left on something different I decided to brew Brooklyn again. This time I went for dry hopping in the fermenting vessel with loads of summit (hop variety). The dry hopping will really intensify the already massive hop character of this beer. I’ve already had some feed back, just this morning I heard from one of the guys at Marble Brewery “Brooklyn Heights is really tasty shit” and those guys² know their shit!
I brewed another beer in the Jazz series this week, Miles Davis was brewed with
Grist
- 75kg of Maris Otter pale ale malt
- 25kg of Munich Malt
- 15kg of Wheat Malt
I wanted to try Green Bullet hops from New Zealand, what better way to do it than a beer brewed with only one variety of hops. So I put 300g in the boil for bitterness and 2kg in at the end of the boil. It smells great and the US-05 yeast I’ve pitched is working its magic (yes magic what else could it be?).
We have set a date for the HPA28° beer dinner and launch night. I’m really looking forward to this! I don’t want to give to much away (because I don’t know the menu my self yet) but we are going to do a three course dinner + cheese board with beer and a 750ml bottle of HPA28°(to take away) for around £40 each.We will be holding the event on Saturday the 16 of October. I will let you all know as soon as I know any more. None of the Hotel rooms have been booked yet (due to the previous night being fully booked already) so If anyone coming from further afield wants to book a room for the night then call the Hotel on 01142322100 or follow the link at the to of the screen to the Hotels site and book on line.
¹I was delivering an 18 gallon cask of Brooklyn to The Sheaf View and told Andy (who works there) that I couldn’t brew it again because of the shortage of the hops, he told me without hesitation to bring another one next week.
²he also said “had a half pre mash” now that’s hard core!
